1. AKA Tribeca
The hotel formerly known as the Smyth is a comfortable, sleek spot in which to lay your head in lower Manhattan. Rooms have Midcentury Modern touches and are elegantly appointed with Italian linens, iPhone docks, custom artwork, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Bathrooms boast marble tubs. The hotel offers free yoga classes to guests.
The 43 rooms at this boutique property are on the diminutive side but the 11-foot-high ceilings balance them out a bit. Perks at this Tribeca spot include bike rentals, free passes to the nearby posh Equinox gym, and in-room iPads. Don't be turned off by the questionably named in-house eatery, Graffiti Earth: the Indo-Persian restaurant is helmed by talented chef Jehangir Mehta.
This stylish downtown hotel mixes Art Nouveau and Midcentury Modern to create a homey yet vintage vibe. The small-ish rooms have Frette linens, daily New York Times delivery, and free WiFi. The bathrooms stock C.O. Bigelow bath amenities. There's also a 24-hour gym on site, in case you feel the need to get in a 3am work out.
Hotelier and sometimes actor Robert De Niro sure knowns how to put together a fine hotel. Perhaps the most stylish property in the neighborhood (if not all of lower Manhattan), the Greenwich Hotel boasts 88 sleek larger-than-average rooms that are clad in Siberian Oak floorboards and minibar snacks and beverages are complimentary. Bring your bathing suit to take advantage of the cool underground pool and also bring your appetite to feast at super chef Andrew Carmellini's topnotch Locanda Verde, located on the ground floor of the hotel.
This hip hotel has a lot of unique perks: a subterranean jazz club for cool cats, regular retro film screenings, a nightclub and lounge run by Paul Sevigny (Chloe's brother), and complimentary bike rentals. Rooms have record players (with a selection of vinyl), Bluetooth-enabled speakers, and C.O. Bigelow bath amenities. It's also very pet friendly: they'll provide bedding for your pooch or kitty.
